“Truth” was a map originally released as part of Counter-Strike: Condition Zero (2004). It is set in rural Japan and features ornamental architecture and a near-symmetrical layout. I updated the visual aesthetic and the layout of “Truth,” then made it available for Counter Strike: Source.

The original version of “Truth” was designed with the GoldSRC engine. I began by translating the layout’s proportions for editing in Source SDK. I did this manually, without the use of decompiling software. I took a top-down screenshot of the original layout and re-sized it in Source SDK as a floor texture. Once the basic geometry was in place, the scale in the Source version ended up being slightly bigger than the original. Since I used screenshots from officially-released Half Life 2 and Counter-Strike: Source maps as visual references, my version of “Truth” has an industrial visual aesthetic.
